        <![CDATA[ Hi all, Dave here. New to the forums and this is my first post.

I have an 81 cb 750 that I got for cheap with the motor seized (didn&#39;t have carbs either) and this morning I pulled it out of the frame and started to tear
it down. I got to the cam tensioners , and the one for the cam to cam chain wasnt a problem, but I am stuck on the crank to cam one. I have a haynes manual,
and it says to loosen the nut for the tensioner, then pull up on it and tighten it. When I do that, I can only get... ]]>

			<description><![CDATA[ If you have more than normal slight running metal in oil, I&#39;d suspect the crank bearings if cam bearings not torn up. Shouldn&#39;t be more than clutch
disc black residue and a VERY slight number of metal flakes in pan. A good indicator sometimes is how much scoring and how many metal flakes stuck in piston
skirt front/back, shows how much metal flying off bearings over time. Don&#39;t pull head studs, just clean around them good. They are notorious for getting
really stuck from exposure... ]]></description>

what exactly do you mean? The only valve work ive done/had done is pulling the valves out of the head and sticking them on a machine to give them a three angle
valve job. Is this what your talking about, or are you talking about something I could do at home in my garage?

what you suggest sounds mighty tempting.  Yes, I can fix a lot of things that don&#39;t need to be fixed, replace a lot of things that don&#39;t need to be

			<description><![CDATA[ I don&#39;t see any point to pulling the studs or even splitting the cases for that matter. More than likely the rings were stuck on the motor and that&#39;s
why it wouldn&#39;t turn over, a good soaking with some penetrating oil for a few days would have freed them. Any idea how many miles on this motor? You can
replace alot of parts that don&#39;t need replaced, fix alot of things that don&#39;t need fixed and spend a ton of money on these old bikes. Like I said

			<description><![CDATA[ I have not opened up the bottom end, still working my way down, but the shavings look like bearing material - in addition to that, is all the trash. Dirt
mostly. The studs for the juggs/head are very dirty as well. do you think it would be safe to pull the studs out of there and clean them and the holes they go
into? Im kind of worried about what I will find when I get everything pulled apart. I couldnt get it to turn over hen I got it, but now the crank seems to turn

			<description><![CDATA[ Yup these pistons do seem to get scored a little around the top but should be ok. any idea yet what the metal might be from? Are you sure that all that shiny
stuff that you are seeing isn&#39;t the zink that they put in bike oil. The shavings, well? That screw didn&#39;t hurt anything? OEM may be the only place to
get those bearings, grab your check book and have your banker on speed dial, they just love ripping us off on that kinda shit. ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I pulled the pistons today, and at first glance they looked to be in good shape. A ton of carbon buildup on the face, and some light scoring around it, above
the top ring, but it does not look to bad. I pulled the oil pan today too, and again, there was a ton of junk in there, in addition to lots of shavings, so I
imagine I will have to get new bearings. As much crap as I am finding, I wont feel comfortable with out tearing it completely down and cleaning everything up. ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ If I&#39;m thinking of the right part you should be able to drill it out and replace it with a roll pin of the right size. Soak those screws for a day or so
with penetrating oil then try using an ez-out first, they shouldn&#39;t be that tight just stuck, steel kinda bonds to aluminum. Nope you have to buy each
part, no magic have it all kits. You will have to get both the A and B gasket sets if you are gonna split the cases(top half and bottom half) Your rings should
still be good, just have... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ You could conceivably recover the advance unit by indexing the #1 piston at TDC and tightening the advance unit in place with TDC mark lined up with other
mark. Then tighten the CRAP out of it. Maybe loctite bolt also, as I have found before on factory motors. The pin in its&#39; hole not super precise anyway.
The ignition is NOT CDI, it&#39;s &#39;transistorized&#39;, just like points but without the points. There is no rebuild kit as such, you gotta piece it
